"Make Your Groove Happen!"

Reynolds-Kirschbaum Recital Hall

Taught by Legendary Bassist Jerry Jemmott

Jerry Jemmott, a.k.a.
"The Groovemaster," was one of the architects of the Atlantic Records and Muscle Shoals Soul sound. A recipient of the 2001 Bass Player Magazine's "Lifetime Achievement Award," Mr. Jemmott has performed/recorded with such legends as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Nina Simone, Roberta Flack, Lionel Hampton, Bette Midler, George Benson, Wilson Pickett, and The Rascals among others. He played on the original recordings of great hits, such as "Think," "The Thrill Is Gone" and "People Got to Be Free."  Jerry's career now spans six decades in which he has also arranged and composed music for films and Off-Broadway shows. In addition to making music, Jerry strongly believes in the importance of music education and inspiring new musicians. As a result of this, he has written a number of articles and books geared toward music students and enthusiasts.

Jerry Jemmott's half-day interactive workshop takes place from
1-4:30 p.m. and is designed to encourage and unleash the inner musician in everyone. Topics will include: the components and elements of self-expression and improvisation; how to create and maintain a groove; and how to study, learn, and practice. www.jerryjemmott.com
