40 years and counting...
CMT began as a dream of Will Breyer--a dream he shared with other musical theatre enthusiasts, a dream that sparked the imaginations of so many talented performers and technicians that within a very short time the group’s scope broadened and Eastern Hills Music Theatre became Cincinnati Music Theatre.
In program notes for the premiere production of The Most Happy Fella, director Will Breyer wrote: "It was almost two years ago when I first approached a select group of individuals to propose the formation of a new Music Theatre Group--its purpose dedicated to the non-professional artist desiring an opportunity to perform in a medium otherwise unobtainable. After many months . . . Eastern Hills Music Theatre became a reality." We stand on the shoulders of giants. We acknowledge our debt to the founding board (Will Breyer, Doug Gray, Frank Longevin, Jean & John McDowell and Jane & Joe O’Reilly) and we commit ourselves to continuing a tradition of presenting outstanding non-professional musical theatre. Many who have been part of CMT are no longer with us. Many are in the audience. But members of that original company of The Most Happy Fella are part of CMT's latest production of The Sound of Music. Congratulations and special thanks to CMT Charter Members BILL HARNISH and JACK WAGNER. And thanks to the nearly 2,300 members of CMT who have been part of a very happy 40 years!
